Daily Vacation: A Recap

Just so you guys don't think I'm sitting somewhere in front of my computer all day talking to you about going on these Daily Vacations and then not doing anything myself to live this mindset, I'm going to give little personal updates every once in awhile.  This blog is not intended to be a journal of my life, but rather an inspiration for yours, but I think recapping some of my Daily Vacations won't hinder the purpose of the blog.

For the past month, since starting Daily Vacation, I've really been paying more attention to the snipets of free time that I have and the fun things to do in the area.  I've gotten up everyday with more planned than just a "to do" list.  The days are no longer time I have to get through before my next scheduled fun thing comes along.

I've really learned that in order to take Daily Vacations, I have to do things ahead of time to make them happen. I've weeded the backyard weekly to keep the grass fresh and healthy for times spent there. I've gotten up super early to exercise so that I don't have to think about it for the rest of the day. I try to organize things at night, so the next morning I don't have to stop and do something I could have easily done the evening before. I try to keep up with cleaning and errands, so I can do what I want to do later. I attempt not to eat junk and keep to scheduled healthy meals, so I don't crash off a sugar high or stall out from hunger and give up on my plans. It's a real balance. I don't always succeed, but at least I'm learning how to achieve it more each day.

I've spent a lot more time outside - enjoying sunrises, sunsets, and beautiful days in between.  My morning breakfast on the front stoop has become one of the most important parts of my schedule, setting my mindset for the rest of the day.  I have taken the time to visit family more and even made new friends within my community.  My husband and I have enjoyed planned weekend movie nights, trips to the zoo, doing home projects together, and spending time just watching our daughter as she does something new almost everyday.  I have changed my approach to expected seasonal activities by reading in front of our electric fireplace when it's a hot summer day outside, and today I'm going to the beach on a cool autumn feeling day.  I've made myself aware of events and places in my area and have a lot of activities to look forward to.

I hope you have enjoyed the Daily Vacation blog so far.  I look forward to continuing to inspire you and be inspired by you.

  1. Hatari? Red Buttons? One of my FAVORITES. I was just telling Marc the other night that we haven't seen that one in awhile.

    1. Brent just saw it for the first time - great movie! Afterwards, he said: "Why didn't they just use tranquilizers?......" hahahaha! I don't know!! Because it's more adventurous to use a stick and rope to catch rhinos, I guess. We went to the zoo soon afterwards and looked at the rhino and laughed about that.

  2. -thanks for sharing not only your "adventures" but your "perspective" on life and living !! You are blessed to be so young and to already have "figured out" what so many your age are struggling with. I pray that God uses you to personally encourage your buddies to live life to the fullest; seeing all that is around you and taking advantage of the "moment" !!! -blessings from Nemmy !!!!!!!!!!!

    1. To be honest, it left me a little unsettled. I know it's supposed to horrify you at the idea of minors killing each other, but I don't see how this was a teen movie or book (and I can understand that the book was banned in places when it was published). The movie was well done and the acting was great, but I didn't like the feeling it gave me. But it was exciting as our first movie night without Savannah, so the experience still made the top Daily Vacations list :)

  5. That's pretty much exactly how I felt about it. Entertaining movie, keeps you on the edge of your seat and your hands out of the popcorn! It did have a couple scenes that I really appreciated, particularly Rue's father's intensely passionate reaction after she dies, but over all... Yeah, didn't like how I felt afterwards. Was extremely surprised at how popular this movie got.
